CONTROL Resonant’s day-one patch (1.3.3): what the studio changed

Remedy deployed a hotfix, version 1.3.3, at launch. The studio’s own announcement gives the reason and the changes in full; this page keeps that wording and adds nothing it did not say. Posted in Steam announcement: CONTROL Resonant launch hotfix addresses enemy health and combat strength

Why the studio patched on day one

Reading player feedback and early data, the studio found three things worth fixing at launch: “enemy health pools feeling too high, requiring too many hits to Falter (stun) enemies for executions”, and “Dylan’s overall combat strength early on in the game not feeling powerful enough”. Stated in Steam announcement: CONTROL Resonant launch hotfix addresses enemy health and combat strength

Enemy health and Dylan’s combat strength

The studio names two named boss fights in the same change: “Reduce the base health and required Falter (stun) level of most enemies, as well as the Dancer and Deserter bosses”, alongside a separate change to “Increase maximum Aberrant Strength and maximum Ability Strength”. Listed in Steam announcement: CONTROL Resonant launch hotfix addresses enemy health and combat strength The post says the strength increases follow a curve, larger towards the end of the game, so the more upgrades a player has, the more damage they deal. The Dancer and Deserter are the only two bosses this page has an official mention of; a fuller list would need its own material.

Respeccing costs less, and drops more

The studio is “permanently reducing the cost of respeccing and increasing the stock of these ‘Reset Items’” at vendors game-wide. Stated in Steam announcement: CONTROL Resonant launch hotfix addresses enemy health and combat strength On top of that, “the first Resonant boss fight (The Artist) will now drop two” Reset Items instead of one. Two stat tooltips got clearer names

The patch also rewrites two English-only UI labels, with localized versions to follow. The exact change, as the studio posted it: “Aberrant Strength: ‘Multiplier X%’ will now be: ‘Damage and Falter X%’”; and Build Power’s tooltip, “‘Calculated based on equipped Weapon Forms, Talents and Core Upgrades.’ will now be: ‘From unlocked Combat Abilities, Aberrant forms/upgrades, Talents, and Core Upgrades.’” Posted in Steam announcement: CONTROL Resonant launch hotfix addresses enemy health and combat strength Weapon Forms themselves are covered on the Aberrant weapon forms page.

What the patch does not touch

  • Assist Mode. The announcement points players who want to tune the game further toward Assist Mode’s sliders in the options menu, which is existing, not new. Its full slider list is on the difficulty and Assist Mode page.
  • Known issues. The studio says it is aware of a number of problems and points players to a Known Issues thread in the game’s Steam forums, without listing them in the announcement itself. This page does not repeat a list it has not seen.
  • Localization. The two UI text changes above are English-only at launch; the post says other languages follow. The full language list is on the languages and dubbing page.

The launch announcement alongside it

The studio posted a separate, shorter announcement the same day confirming the game had launched, with a note from Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen: “This took seven years… We wanted to make something that provokes.” Posted in Steam announcement: CONTROL Resonant Is Out Now Reviews written before launch are on what the reviews say; how the digital unlock worked is on the release date page.
